Washington, D.C.— U.S. Senators John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis, alongside Senator Lindsey Graham and 41 of their colleagues, have called for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to take action regarding the Articles of Impeachment against U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

"Our brave men and women at Customs and Border Protection have worked tirelessly to make our nation safer, yet with 7.5 million encounters since President Biden took office, our southern border is a national security disaster," expressed Senators Barrasso and Lummis, highlighting the concerning increase in encounters at the border during Secretary Mayorkas's tenure.

The Senators emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional duties, stating, "The House of Representatives has considered this evidence and impeached Secretary Mayorkas. Our constitutional duty requires the Senate to hold a trial." They pointed out the historical precedence of the Senate adjudicating Articles of Impeachment sent by the House of Representatives.

According to Senators Barrasso and Lummis, the current border crisis under Secretary Mayorkas has deeply impacted the American people, leading to calls for accountability and a Senate trial to address the situation.

In a concerning statistic, the Senators mentioned, "The majority of Americans believe the Mayorkas Department of Homeland Security willfully refused to enforce border security laws," reflecting the sentiments of a significant portion of the population across party lines.

The demand for accountability and action in response to the border crisis remains a focal point for Senators Barrasso and Lummis, as they urge for a thorough examination of the situation within the Senate.
