U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) has expressed her approval of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to hear oral arguments in Garland v. Cargill, a case aimed at overturning the 2018 Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' rule banning bump stocks. Senator Lummis believes that this rule infringes on the rights of Wyoming residents, stating, "The people of Wyoming have a right to protect their family and property, and the ATF’s self-awarded authority to confiscate firearms from law-abiding Wyoming gun owners is an egregious violation of their rights."

She also criticized the Biden administration for what she sees as the misuse of the ATF to enforce unconstitutional measures, saying, "The Biden administration’s systemic weaponization of the ATF is unconstitutional." Senator Lummis expressed hope that the Supreme Court will intervene and protect the constitutional rights of gun owners in Wyoming from what she calls "gun grabbers in Washington."

In January, Senator Lummis led a group of colleagues in filing a brief focusing on the Chevron doctrine, ATF overreach, and the importance of clear criminal laws. This move was part of an ongoing effort to challenge what she perceives as federal overreach and to defend the Second Amendment rights of Wyoming residents.
